Scene 1. Home Alone
Last night. Kids in bed. Drew is craving a Chinese-style hot dog snack. There's a little campus store about a 3-minute walk from our apartment, so I told Drew I'd go get him a dog right after I tucked Titus back into bed (he had woken up to pee). I kissed Titus goodnight, and as I was tiptoeing out of the room, I thought I heard someone outside our apartment door....checked, nobody there. Drew was working in the office when I left, throwing on my jacket & boots and running out the door. Three minutes later I walked into the campus store. I screamed when I saw... DREW! ...buying a hot dog. "Ahh! What are you doing here?" Apparently he thought I would have noticed that he left. But I didn't. So we met at the wiener grill while our three little boys were home alone. Oh my goodness. Lyn I hope you're not reading this.
Scene 2. Choice Receptacle
A few days ago. I'm in the bathroom. Titus knocks on the door. T: Mom, here's my rainboots. There's pee in there.
R: What!? Why?
T: I peed in my rainboots because I could not go in the toilet because there was already someone in the bathroom.
Scene 3. Good-lookin'
Tonight as we were finishing up supper. Drew was in the kitchen getting more food for Jon. R: Titus you should go tell Dad he's really good-looking.
T: Ok.
...to kitchen...
T: Daddy! You're really really good-looking!!!
D: Huh? What?
T: You're good-looking!
D: Why?
T: Because you're handsome.
D: Why?
T: Because you're so cute.
D: Why?
T: ... Because I love you.
I love it. This post cracked me up. :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! Adam and I pretty much lost Calvin in the yard when he was about 18 months. We both thought the other had an eye on him. That's so funny though! I'm sure it happens more often than you think. And I know the 3 of us are very responsible with our boys.
ReplyDeleteTitus peeing in his boots- sounds like a Calvin story to me. At least rain boots are rubber. If they were snow boots it would be a real bummer. Haha!
Titus is one smooth talker. Super cute. And Hilarious!!... Rach, I love your writing...

Dale and I laughed so hard at your story! It reminded me of the time I left our youngest son at the grocery store and noticed it when I drove in the garage at home! I knew something was missing. Laughter is good medicine.
ReplyDeletePortia's Mom, Ruth
glad you all got a good laugh out of this! ah it's good to laugh......
ReplyDeleteSo fun to read about your daily life in China. The boys are adorable and I can tell there is not a dull moment to be had! I wonder...if it's a three minute walk to the little campus store, how long did it take you to run back!
