introducing
You're gonna want to read every word of this; her perspective is astounding:
My name is Lydia.
I am a girl from Changsha, China, the capital of Hunan.
When I was a young child a fire in my home badly burned all of my limbs and face. Over the next several years I had many surgeries during which both of my legs and parts of my hands were amputated.
After the fire, my parents and family abandoned me and I have lived at an orphanage in Changsha ever since.
Because of this event, my life has been forever altered. Many times in my adult life I have sought to enter society because it is my dream to use my two hands to support myself. But society is cruel and my efforts have always been unsuccessful. Some even laughed at me saying I am too ugly and none have given me the slightest chance to show my abilities.
Even through I have failed so far, I have never given up hope that I can someday support myself. I have always encouraged myself by saying that there must be at least one path to success and that I must not give up trying.
Finally, God gave me a very unexpected gift. That gift has been the understanding of how to embroider. Through the last several years of diligent work, I have been able to produce works that express my perseverance, successes, hopes and dreams.
I hope that I can meet many new friends from different countries through my embroidery. I normally am very solitary as I am alone by myself most days which despite my embroidery, can be very boring. However, I do not want to complain about my life, but strive to live joyfully.
Because I know that God is with me and loves me, I believe that he has good plans for me. I hope that through your generosity and this business I can be encouraged, helped and supported.
Enjoy shopping in my store!
Your friend,
Lydia
Lydia is a friend of ours. She asked Drew if he would create a website to market her cross stitch pieces in the US. Her description of life as a disabled person in China is true -- although she has great ambition, there are no opportunities for her in this society. We hope you'll browse the pieces that Lydia has carefully constructed, and pass her website store onto anyone you know who might be interested. Thank you!
Currently, we're networking Lydia with a business owner who intentionally employs marginalized people. Lydia has a desire to overcome her circumstances, work and find purpose, she just needs a chance.
Here are a few samples, visit Lydia's Threads for the complete collection.
Those are beautiful works of art, Lydia - and so are you! Please keep up the hard work. You are in my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteI love her works. I would like to order some. Thanks for sharing this great true story.
ReplyDeleteWe are really appreciating the positive response and ways you have been helping promote Lydia!
ReplyDeleteI will contact you Ruth.
I love her stuff! When I get my first paycheck after I move back to AK, I will buy something! :)
ReplyDeleteHi. I posted about Lydia on my blog. There are many families inspired to buy her work and support her business. She is an inspiration. Is there a way to set up some personal requests? The adoption community has the ladybug as a symbol of Ch*ina adoption and the RED THREAD quote is another popular theme. Also, many would love to order their child's Chinese name embroidered. Is there any way for her to show that she can embroider Chinese names and let people know how to place an order for speicfic characters? We would love to see her succeed and there is a desire for those types of specialty pieces. Thanks so much for sharing.

Thanks so much everyone!
ReplyDeleteErin, I will email you.
I really think your embroidery is wonderful. I especially like your autumn trees. It is now Autumn in Australia and many trees are turning a beautiful gold just like the trees in your embroidery. I am sure that many people will buy your beautiful pictures.
